Big Data : An Introduction

Big Data can be defined as a combination of structured, semi-structured and unstructured data. It is mined for analysis to gain valuable information. Big Data is generated in real-time and in a huge scale. Sensors, devices, video/audio, networks, log files, transactional applications, digital media such as web and social media are some sources of Big Data.

Big Data is different from Database. Database is an organized collection/storage of information which can be easily captured, accessed, managed and updated. Big Data, on the other hand, cannot be captured, stored, managed and processed by traditional Databases, for it is too big and too diverse and is generated at high velocity. Big Data is all about analyzing and predicting human and machine behaviour by processing a very huge amount of related data. It is used in machine learning projects, predicctive modeling and other analytics applications.

Big Data is finding application in a myriad way across businesses and sectors. Organizations use Big Data to improve their operations, provide better services to their customers and build personalized promotional campaigns to increase their bottom lines. Big Data is also used to identify diseases, factors triggering them and their diagnosis. It also helps predict outbreaks of infectious diseases. Energy, financial services, manufacturing and transportation sectors all use Big Data for various business processes. Government agencies also rely on Big Data for emergency response, crime prevention and other initiatives.

Harnessing Big Data, however, requires a diverse set skills and technologies. This, in turn, requires specialized training to master those skills.

GNV IT Solutions Big Data is meticulously designed to help you master skills that a Big Data Analytics professional needs.
